FAIRFIELD

The story of Glasgow's greatest shipyard

Events

As a social enterprise, community engagement is at the very core of the Govan Workspace ethos and Fairfield Heritage has become a vibrant centre for wide-ranging community activities and events.

Talks

Talks on shipbuilding subjects, offered afternoons and evenings in the Boardroom and via Zoom link, are delivered by expert speakers ranging from former shipyard workers to academics.

Walking Tours

Govan heritage and Shipbuilding heritage

We offer two walking tours covering the shipbuilding history of Govan and development of the town itself. These are seasonal and happen twice a week at peak for up to twenty people.

Family History Group

The Family History Group now has a core of ten volunteers and public participants offering advice to people researching family history. It often handles overseas enquiries from people seeking information about relatives who worked in the shipyard or lived in Govan. The group meets once a fortnight and arranges occasional Open Days.

Dementia Friendly Sessions

Fairfield welcomes regular visits from a particular group that caters for dementia sufferers. Sessions, run in association with Alzheimers Scotland, are hosted by a volunteer who is a former nurse and well known Dementia Champion. These meetings, involving up to 12 people once a month, prove especially beneficial for those affected who have had links to Govan, including former shipyard workers.

All of our events will be advertised here and tickets will be available via Eventbrite.
