Govan Reminiscence Group win Third Prize at the Govan Fair!

   Members of the Govan Reminiscence Group on board their Govan Fair float, GRG Fairfield Members of Govan Reminiscence Group dressed in bowlers, bunnets and’ finery for their Fair float celebrating the launch of the fantasy ship GRG Fairfield. The Govan Fair procession, held on the first Friday in June, is a tradition that dates back to the founding of the Govan Weavers Society in 1756.

 

Between the mid-nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the heyday of shipbuilding on the Clyde, Govan was at the centre of the industry.
