Aircraft carrier section moved from Fairfield

The Fairfield Heritage team was given access to the Fairfield shipyard to film an 11,000-tonne section of aircraft carrier being moved out of the yard. The section was moved onto a huge purpose-built barge that will carry it 600 miles to the Rosyth dockyard in Fife. Once there, it will join with other large sections to form HMS Queen Elizabeth, being completed in 2016. Work carries on at Fairfield with the construction of another carrier HMS Prince of Wales (Sister ship to Queen Elizabeth) under way.

The event went smoothly and our footage will allow our project to create films that explore the changing nature of shipbuilding over the years.
